My Wellness Journey Ep. 3

With all the compounding stressors I was under my body was having a difficulty with producing adrenaline and cortisol, with the added sleep deprivation my body had enough and put on the breaks. While driving to pick up groceries I zoned out, fell asleep at the wheel and crossed over the yellow lines into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, the opposing traffic’s headlights snapped me out of it, I was able to recover and avoid an accident. What followed was the decision to start my road to wellness and recovery.


Some chose the path to wellness, others have the decision brought upon them. After falling asleep at the wheel I had no choice but to put on the breaks, slow down and allow my body to rest. I have little support in my city, no family nearby to help, and my work offered no resolutions to the issues I had brought forward.


I visited my doctor and he felt the current SSRI Amitriptyline I was taking was not effective in treating my anxiety. So he switched me to Zoloft believing that the issues were Anxiety driven. I requested sometime off to adjust to the new medication's side effects. The Doctor also suggested exercise to help increase serotonin levels, but he

felt I should be good to return to work after a week or so....

I remember falling asleep at the wheel, luckily if was just at a stop and didn’t move when the lights turned green.
